  • 21 years of age by Academy Graduation
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • No Dishonorable Military Discharge
  • Utah State Driver’s License must be obtained in 30 days from Hire Date

    1. Apply
      Complete and submit the Eligibility Questionnaire to begin the hiring process.
       
    2. Written Exam and Physical Fitness Test
      You will be scheduled to take both the written exam and physical fitness test.

      Written Examination
      • Consists of 107 questions in the following categories:
        • 75 Situational Judgement
        • 18 Reading Comprehension
        • 14 Grammar
      • You must pass the written exam with a minimum score of 70% on your first attempt.
        • No re-testing is permitted if you fail to meet the 70% minimum.

    Physical Fitness Test

      • The minimum standard is to complete a 4-minute row at or above the 25th percentile for your age, weight, and gender.
      • The Physical Fitness Test is conducted on a Concept 2 Rowing machine with the damper set at 5.

    1. Complete and Submit Your Application (Personal History Statement).
      • Upon successfully passing the written and physical fitness test, you will receive a link to complete the online application, commonly referred to as the Personal History Statement (PHS).
    1. Background Investigation
      • If you meet the required standards, a Background Investigator will contact you to schedule a preliminary background interview and provide instructions for completing a Personal Information Packet (PIP).
      • An extensive background investigation will be conducted, including but not limited to the following: personal and family history, driving record, educational background, financial and credit history, employment and military service, and residential history.
    1. Polygraph Exam
      • After a thorough background investigation, you may be scheduled for a polygraph exam. This exam will take approximately 2 hours.
      • Business or business casual attire, no jeans.
    1. Oral Board Interview
      • After successfully completing above requirements, you will be scheduled for an Oral Board Interview.
      • The interview panel will consist of two CCPD ranking officers and one civilian Human Resources representative.
      • You will be asked a series of standardized questions designed to evaluate your: communication skills, judgement, decision making ability and character.
      • Professional business attire is required.
    1. Conditional Offer of Employment
      After you receive a conditional offer, you will be scheduled for the following evaluations:
      • Psychological Evaluation
        • You must pass an evaluation conducted by the Police Department Psychologist to determine your psychological and emotional suitability for the role.
      • Medical Exam and Drug Testing
        • You must be evaluated by a licensed physician selected by the City of Corpus Christi.
        • You must be declared physically sound and free from any condition that could adversely affect your ability to perform the duties of a police officer.
    1. After successfully completing the psychological evaluation, medical exam and drug testing, your application file will be submitted for final review by the Chief of Police.
    1. Start the Academy
      • If selected, you will be hired by the City of Corpus Christi and begin receiving base pay as a Police Trainee.
      • The Corpus Christi Police Academy training program is 34 weeks long.
